Wide Open Walls in Boulevard Park

One of my ongoing personal photo projects is #CelebrateMyCity, where I highlight areas and scenes in my home city that I personally like. Not necessarily the hot spots or Historic Sites or anything that might turn up in a google search of “What to Do in Sacramento”, but it’s all the places I happen to love or be captured by! It’s personal and each of us has a special place in our hearts for the places we live.

A couple years back, Sacramento hosted a Wide Open Walls Mural Festival and many buildings now have been transformed! They boast amazing art, vision, color and style! What a wonderful transformation in our city! Of course, (if you know me) I’m captivated by color and the sheer size of these murals moves me. #ARTforALL   It’s a fun discovery wherever we go downtown to see what is new….add some gorgeous evening light and I’m screaming, “STOP, STOP!! —I gotta shoot that!!”. Fortunately, my photo buddy, Gail, is also a photographer and ‘gets it’, so she happily pulls over as I bounce off into the parking lot, snapping and smiling! 

Alleys and parking lots will never be the same… So much inspiration!

I love the quote about the response of the residents: “people are more excited, they are talking about the art…” and it makes me think of how much creativity affects us and the atmosphere around us. Art is far more powerful than we know.
