The War of Art- the struggle is real!
JULY 1
It is incredibly hard to get started on something you feel is so important you don’t know where to start. We are worried about the future, the overall message, the sequence, the whatever! So much that we DON’T get started and we put it off for another day thinking we will be thinking more clearly, or perhaps more creatively…. Or have more time…. Nope. Day 2. Nope. Day 3. Try again. Sigh……it’s the War of Art. (a must-read by Steven Pressfield)
The struggle is real! I might as well be honest, right? They say you need to be authentic and vulnerable. Well, here ya go! I often think that someday I’ll master the getting-my-act-together part, but then I remember the wisdom of Steven Pressfield, who said*, “The fighter and the artist both abide by the same obligation code, which specifies that each day the fight has to be waged again.” Oh, so true!
So today, again, I’m determined to get something posted. It’s the real deal. The War of Art. We want to create and we fight against the formidable foe of the Resistance. We don’t even know what it is, sometimes. [Ah, but I digress! How can one put an entire book into one paragraph?] Did I mention that every artist needs to read this book? The War of Art by Steven Pressfield
Well, I am posting a blog today. Whatever it is, it will be posted. Hmmm…. Let’s see. It would be really nice to have something creative in it, instead of just the painful drivel of a writhing artist trying to write…. Haha.
Let’s talk about photography! And ART!
Many of us love photography. Photos can be for the sake of documentation and memory or perhaps more. Some of us want to do photography for the creative outlet or the expression of ideas, and we want to not only capture the beauty (or the shape and design or the emotion that we see and feel), but we want to tell some sort of story or inspire thought. That’s what I want to do. I love photography SO much. I love experiencing the world through the eye of my lens. But I want to show more and say more through my images. I want to take photographs and then do something with them to take them to another level: to tell a story, to evoke emotion, to educate and inspire!
So let’s embark on a journey to explore different ways to make photographic art. It is my passion and delight to create and to share! Join me on this most excellent journey of photography, creativity and JOY! This image is one of my very favorites from Italy last year. Such a storytelling image full of texture and color and sweet memories! I can’t wait to share how I created this!
