Leverage your Time Creatively

What sparked this blog for “Whatever Wednesday” is the IN PROGRESS projects I’ve got going, just waiting “for the sale”…. And I’m stoked that Bay Photo has their Bay Books on sale 30% off till Thursday! I’ve been waiting for this and I’m just about ready!

But that’s what we should ALL be doing (and me too, on a grander scale) during this Covid Lockdown! We are all pacing around, trying to “hurry up and wait”, right? We know things will turn around someday soon, or we hope soon….the challenge is keeping up the motivation to be productive while we are pacing, antsy, sad, and a host of other uncomfortable emotions. 

But really, if we can use the time to get our fresh sample images for our studios or make a fresh body of work or series of paintings or cards or gifts…. It’s only a matter of time when the sales will come around and we will be ready! How many times have we seen a 24-hour sale on a certain product and NO TIME to find or prep a file or utilize the opportunity?  I am not privy to the upcoming @BayPhoto specials, BUT I know it’s a continual cycle of lovely products and specials all year, so let’s just get creative and ready for the deals! I’ve been really trying to get myself out of the funk by being creative! Doing stuff I’ve dreamed of but haven’t taken the time—like I painted my back porch like a Mexican restaurant (8 colors) with a few friends a couple weeks ago (blog coming soon)! I dreamed of this for at least 4 years! It’s so stinkin’ marvelous! And it was FUN medicine for the soul!

I also started on an Art Book that’s been on my Creativity List for a couple years… plus a few albums for friends and relatives (no deadline) that have been lurking in the back of my mind…. Its been difficult being alone so much, especially for me, Ms. Social Butterfly! And I’ve enjoyed a few long phone calls recently, so I started up a folder called “paint anytime” on my desktop and I just grab a new image and start painting while I chat away! It’s been great practice, great fun, and feels productive even though I’m just talking on the phone. So little of what I do is mindless- I don’t even listen to music sometimes because my mind is so engaged. But painting with mixer brushes is so calming and therapeutic (and almost mindless) so I can do it while I visit on the phone! Here are a few I did just this past week!

I teach a class on Mixer Brush Painting that was supposed to be held last week in Houston, but it got cancelled! (still waiting to reschedule) Class Calendar. I’m leveraging this down time to make more samples, refine my skills, PLAY with art, make more cool brushes and I’m standing by, waiting for that next special on Fine Art Prints at Bay Photo! haha
