Hybrid Photography definition:

Hybrid Photography: [aka Moving Portrait, Live Portrait, Living Portrait, Reel Story, eCardPro, Instavid, Cinemagraph, Flixel, Plotagraph, etc.]

Hybrid Photography is a creative combination of Still Photos, Videos and Sound.

Typically, it is a short video file (.mp4) that is under 2 minutes, but usually shorter than 60 seconds. There are many ways to make a hybrid “Moving Portrait” as I call them. It can be a simple straight video clip connected to a still photo (LivePortrait), or it can be created with a slideshow style program like ProShowWeb [by Photodex] or Animoto. It can also be created with Photoshop, Adobe Premier, Final Cut Pro, or a host of simple programs like iMovie, Screen Flow, QuickTime and more. I think that even the cinemagraphs by Flixel or Plotagraph qualify as a Hybrid or Moving Portrait!  I personally create most of mine with Lightroom (just for trimming) and either ProShowWeb or Photoshop for the finished videos. Typically, I deliver them with the Live Portrait service, which allows a PRINT to be scanned with a smartphone which will then play the video anytime and anywhere there is cell service or wifi present. As a photographer that believes in the value of Prints, AND the power of video for storytelling, this is a perfect combination.
