#5 iA = intelligent AUTO
iA~INTELLIGENT AUTO:
It’s ridiculous how smart these cameras are. Pretty much smarter than you and I put together. We’ve had “P” mode for a while, where we set the ISO and the focus modes and let the camera make all the other judgment calls for us. Relatively reliable, but I rarely used it.
Enter INTELLIGENT AUTO.
When you use iA, it takes over, and pretty much makes ALL the decisions. In other words, you get NO say- it is Auto ISO, it chooses the best focus mode, exposure, color… and what is really outrageous is even helps you by choosing certain shooting styles based on what you are photographing! How does it do that? Well, when you point the camera at a bowl of fruit or plate of food, it KNOWS! And the icon of the [little fork and knife wiggling by a plate] pops up letting you know it is in Food Photography mode. OR—if it’s a face, the little portrait icon shows up…. No, I am not making this up! It will actually recognize the scene!~ from night shots with slow shutter speeds to sports and action shots! There are about 24 different scene modes that are optimized to get the best image for that kind of scenario. Pretty Smart!
(Press play to see the carousel view of scene modes) Available on all models except GH4. However, iA and iA+ are present on GH4, just not the scene modes because it is a pro level camera and assumes you don’t need the help with scene modes. 😀
OH, by the way, anytime you are just messing with the menus or trying different experiments, and gotta switch back real fast…. Break out the iA and it saves the day. Right on the money every time. (like if you are shooting in a dark church at a wedding and run outside after the bride and groom into the blinding sunlight….yeah! iA is just the ticket!)
Sooooo… but what about that 5-10% of the time when it doesn’t look like you wanted… ?? Well, you just flip it over to iA+ [plus] if you want to exercise your creative control ! In this mode you get to dial in over- and under-compensation and even color temp. Yep, they thought of everything. [Let’s just not talk about how often we use it, ok?]
#SuzetteSez: Partner with those smarter [more capable, stronger, etc] than you to compensate for your weak areas. Sometimes this includes technology! It’s just #smartbusiness.
