#1 Constant Preview
I love the WYSIWYG [what-you-see-is-what-you-get] feature of a mirrorless camera! I often shoot in manual mode where I can control my exposure, and it is so helpful to literally SEE what your exposure is going to look like- and adjust accordingly. In fact, when new Lumix users first get their cameras, I show them how to turn on that function, first thing!
Typically when you look through a camera, you can see the scene, but it does not reflect what the camera settings are at all. You have to take a shot and then “chimp” to see if it was a proper exposure. But with Constant Preview, the image you see in the EVF (electronic viewfinder) and the monitor exactly reflects the exposure hitting the sensor! I love the ability to just scroll my shutter or aperture wheel and see my exposure visibly change! [and it even gives me zebra indicators on exposure! –another reason coming soon!]. Shooting and adjusting on the fly is so intuitive and easy, either while I’m looking through the viewfinder or the monitor.
I know there is a constant preview mode with some DSLRs too, but only when the mirror is flipped up. So that means you can only see it on the monitor. It’s not great when you are working outside in bright light, for sure.
But the electronic viewfinder (EVF) on a mirrorless camera makes it so easy to see no matter what you are doing and you get to see exactly what the exposure looks like BEFORE you take it.
Oh, but that’s not all….you also get to see AFTER with . . . . . wait for it . . . .
